AfghanMade Carpets is showcasing the new collection of hand woven rugs from Afghanistan at Maison & Objet in Paris, together with partnering companies Matt Camron, Michaelian & Kohlberg, Oritop, Ignacio Larrain Alfrombas and Eliko. Masion & Objet is one of the leading shows for interior design traders, emerging trends and the latest materials in the industry which is taking place in Paris from the 24th to 28th January 2014.
The partner companies, who are among some of the leading international carpet designers, are working with AfghanMade Carpets and are the first to directly source their production of fine handmade carpets in Afghanistan.
AfghanMade Carpets is part of an initiative promoting indigenous industries in Afghanistan. As the global production of hand knotted carpets is declining, Afghanistan, with its highly skilled carpet weavers is well poised to become one of the major sources of new production of fine rugs.
Matt Camron, a partnering company, states that “the potential of handmade rugs in Afghanistan is incredibly exciting and we are honoured to be part of this important effort to revitalize the weaving industry”. He believes the project will not only introduce new designs from Afghanistan into the world market but will also provide long-term job opportunities to thousands of Afghans, especially women.
William Sumner of Michaelian & Kohlberg believes that “Afghanistan, with weaving in its veins is a country that can take its place among the most productive rug weaving nations, particularly as the world modernizes”.
